The Indian sci-fi epic, formerly known as “Project K,” has had its title officially revealed as “Kalki 2898 AD” at the current San Diego Comic-Con, accompanied by a trailer.
The movie is produced by C. Aswani Dutt’s Vyjayanthi Movies and directed by Nag Ashwin (“Mahanati”). It features Indian A-list actors Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, who starred in and produced Vikram, one of the biggest hits of 2022, and has “Indian 2” in the works, and Disha Patani.
According to Hindu mythology, Kalki is the god Vishnu’s tenth and final incarnation. He emerges to put an end to the Kali Yuga, the worst era in human history. The “Kalki 2898 AD” trailer announces that “when the world is overtaken by darkness, a new force will arise,” setting the scenario for Prabhas.
Although the movie’s budget has not been made public, Variety has learned that it is in the neighborhood of $75 million, making it one of the most costly Indian movies ever made.
Spirit Media, run by “Baahubali” actor Rana Daggubati, has joined the project as a marketing and distribution partner abroad. Other Spirit projects were announced during San Diego Comic-Con.
On Jan. 12, 2024, “Kalki 2898 AD” is expected to be released internationally in the Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and English languages.
