On Tuesday, the 95th Academy Awards will reveal its nominees (January 24). NTR Jr. has been named as one of the leading candidates for the Best Actor Award at the Oscars in 2023 by the American journal “USA Today” ahead of the announcement of nominations.
The actor has been in the spotlight due to the success of SS Rajamouli’s historical action film RRR, in which he plays the lead role. At the Critics’ Choice Awards, the movie won Best Foreign Language Film and Best Song. Naatu Naatu, a well-known song from the movie, also took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
RRR is a historical drama about independence fighters Alluri Seetharamaraju and Komaram Bheem, played by Jr. NTR and Ram Charan, and their contributions to the Independence movement. It is set in the 1920s.
In addition to USA Today, the American publication Variety also named Jr. NTR as having a good possibility of receiving a nomination.
In addition, four Indian movies have been shortlisted: RRR, Chhello Show, All That Breathes, and The Elephant Whisperers.
Naatu Naatu is one of the songs that has already been shortlisted for the 2023 Oscars. Additionally, The Last Film Show by Pan Nalin made the shortlist for the International Feature Film category. The Indian government submitted The Last Film Show as their entry for Best Film in a Foreign Language.
Actors Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams will serve as the hosts of the nominee announcement event, which will take place at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater. Beginning on January 11 and ending on January 17, 2023, the nominees for the Oscars were announced.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) had the highest voter turnout for the Oscars in its 95-year history, according to a letter published by Bill Kramer, the CRO of the Academy. According to a report in India Today, the letter referred to this as “record-breaking involvement” from AMPAS members.
